This page explains how to set up New Outlook that comes with a current “Microsoft 365” or “Office 365” subscription.

We don’t recommend New Outlook.

These instructions are for “New Outlook”, which we do not recommend. It doesn’t have many of the classic Outlook features, it’s slow, it has many bugs, and it routes all your mail through the Microsoft email servers instead of connecting directly to our servers.

Most people prefer, and should use, the “classic” Outlook program. If you’re trying to use the classic version of Outlook, be sure to choose “Outlook (classic)” from your Windows Start menu, not the one called “Outlook (new)” or just “Outlook”:

If you do want to use New Outlook instead of the classic Outlook program we recommend, the instructions below will explain how to set it up.

Before you continue, you should enter your email address (the address you want to set up in Outlook) in the box above. Entering your email address makes sure that the instructions below are correct.

1. Start the Microsoft Outlook program.

Use the Start menu to start Outlook, which may be called New Outlook or Outlook (New) on some computers.

If you’ve never used Outlook before, it will usually prompt you to create a new account. In that case, skip ahead to step 2.

If Outlook doesn’t prompt you, click the File menu and choose Account info:

New Outlook "File" tab

Then make sure that Accounts is selected on the left and click the Add Account button:

New Outlook Add Account button

2. The “Welcome to the new Outlook” window appears.

Enter your email address:

Then click Continue.

3. Outlook may ask for your email provider.

Outlook may automatically detect the necessary settings and ask for your password. If it does, enter your email password and click Continue, then skip ahead to step 5.

If Outlook instead asks you to “Select your email provider”, choose the IMAP option:

4. Enter your email settings.

Outlook should prompt for your IMAP email settings. Enter these:

Password:your email password
IMAP Incoming server:mail.tigertech.net
IMAP port:993
IMAP Secure connection type:SSL / TLS (recommended)
SMTP username:your email address
SMTP Password:your email password
SMTP outgoing server:mail.tigertech.net
SMTP port:465
SMTP Secure connection type:SSL / TLS (recommended)

The window should look like this:

New Outlook settings

Click Continue.

5. Outlook displays a privacy warning.

New Outlook will tell you it’s going to “sync your emails to the Microsoft Cloud”. Click Continue again.

6. Outlook will check the settings.

New Outlook will say “Waiting for your email provider” while it configures your account on the Microsoft Cloud servers.

Outlook sometimes shows “Waiting for your email provider” for several minutes. You should allow it to finish even if it takes a long time.

If Outlook successfully configures the Microsoft Cloud servers, it will show a message saying “Success! Your emails are now synced.” You can click Done and use Outlook.

If it has trouble with the setup, it will say “something went wrong. Try again,” If that happens, click the Advanced Setup button, then follow these instructions again from step 3.
