How do I verify the settings in the Outlook iOS app?
If you’ve already set up an email account in the Outlook iOS app and you want to make sure the settings are correct or enter a new password, this page explains how to do so.
1. Start the app
From the home screen, tap Outlook to run the app.
2. Select the account
Click the icon in the top left, and then tap the small “gear” icon at the bottom.
Next, tap your address@example.com account so that you can see its settings.
3. Verify the account settings
Tap Edit Login Information, and you’ll see a screen that shows all of the account settings. The window should look like this:
Although the “Display Name” and two “Passwords” will be different, everything else should exactly be as shown above.
In the first section:
Email: | your email address (all lowercase) |
Display Name: | your full name, such as Steve Jobs |
Description: | your email address (all lowercase) |
In the “IMAP Incoming Mail Server” section:
IMAP Hostname: | mail.tigertech.net |
IMAP Port: | 993 |
Port Security: | SSL |
IMAP Username: | your email address (all lowercase) |
IMAP Password: | your email password |
In the “SMTP Outgoing Mail Server” section:
SMTP Hostname: | mail.tigertech.net |
SMTP Port: | 465 |
Port Security: | SSL |
SMTP Username: | your email address (all lowercase) |
SMTP Password: | your email password |
After verifying these settings, tap Sign In to save the settings and return to the prior screen.
Seeing an error saying that Outlook can’t make a secure connection?
If this happens, it’s due to a bug in Outlook, but you may be able to get it to work by:- Changing the “IMAP Port” from 993 to 143
- Changing the “SMTP Port” from 465 to 587
- Changing both “Port Security” options from “SSL” to STARTTLS.
4. Optional: Verify the “Advanced Settings”
Outlook should automatically detect the correct “Sent” and “Trash” folders on the server. If you want to verify (or change) these settings, tap Advanced Settings. This will bring up a screen where you can manually select a specific folder in which to save copies of sent or deleted message.
Tap the special folder that you want to edit (such as Sent or Trash). This will display a screen with a list of all folders for your email account. Tap the desired folder.
When you are done reviewing the advanced settings, simply tap the left arrow at the top to return to the prior screen showing the “IMAP” settings.
5. Finish and test
When you are done reviewing all settings, tap the left arrow at the top to return to the main screen.
Then, tap the Mail icon and send yourself a test message. This will test Outlook’s ability both to send and receive email.
