If you turn off the “Send welcome message to newly subscribed members?” option on Mailman’s “General Options” screen, you may cause your subscribers to get strange messages beginning with this text:

The results of your email command are provided below.

This will happen when people reply to the subscription confirmation messages. It’s the generic reply Mailman sends to someone letting them know they’ve been subscribed when you don’t allow a normal welcome message.

To fix this, simply set the “Send welcome message to newly subscribed members?” option on Mailman’s “General Options” screen back to Yes.

This option should definitely be enabled anyway, because otherwise people who join your list by replying to the confirmation won’t know they’ve been successfully subscribed.
