If you’ve already set up an email account on your Android phone and you want to make sure the settings are correct, this page explains how to do so.

1. Go to the mail setup screen.

From the applications menu, select Email.

Press Menu, then Account settings.

(Instead of the Email application, some Android phones use the My Accounts application for setting up email accounts.)

2. Verify incoming mail settings.

Click Incoming settings. The screen should look similar to this:

Android incoming mail settings screen

Your settings should be as follows:

  • E-Mail address: Your email address (all lowercase)
  • Username: Your email address (all lowercase)
  • Password: Your email password
  • IMAP server: mail.tigertech.net
  • Security type: SSL (Accept All Certificates)
  • Port: 993
  • IMAP path prefix: Leave this blank

Instead of “Security type”, some older phones have checkboxes marked “Use secure connection” and “Verify Certificate”. If you have one of these phones, check the first box, and leave the second unchecked.

If you originally set up your Android phone to make POP3 connections instead of IMAP connections, the port should be 995 instead of 993.

Click Next to have the phone verify your incoming mail settings.

3. Verify outgoing mail settings.

Now you will be back at the Account settings menu. Click on Outgoing settings. The screen should look similar to this:

Your settings should be as follows:

  • SMTP server: mail.tigertech.net
  • Security type: TLS. This may be listed as STARTTLS (Accept all certificates) on some phones
  • Port: 587
  • Require sign-in: Make sure this is checked
  • User name: Your email address (all lowercase)
  • Password: Your email password

(Instead of “Security type”, some older phones have checkboxes marked “Use secure connection” and “Verify Certificate”. Make sure both boxes are unchecked if you have one of these phones.)

Click Next to have your phone verify the outgoing settings.

4. Finish

You email account should now be set up properly to send and receive messages. You may want to send yourself a test message.
