Why do I see an error message about a “*.tigertech.net” SSL certificate?

We’re occasionally asked why an error message appears saying that there is a “certificate mismatch” of an incorrect *.tigertech.net SSL certificate.

This problem happens if you connect to your site using SSL with an outdated tool or web browser that does not support Server Name Indication (SNI).

It means the tool or browser has not been updated in many years, and will not work with many SSL sites on the Internet today. It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with your website.

This problem should not happen with any real, modern web browser with modern SSL support.

If you need to use a very old tool that cannot be upgraded to support SNI, you may want to add a dedicated IP address to your site. If you do that, your site will work even if the tool does not support SNI.
