Newly installed WordPress sites on our servers usually use SSL security by default. But if you’re a customer of ours who has a WordPress site that is showing as “not secure”, we can make it use SSL security for you, at no extra charge.

Just contact us and ask us to “make the WordPress site for example.com use SSL security so it shows as fully secure”. We’ll make sure it’s using a free SSL certificate that’s included in all our hosting plans, then change the WordPress settings to make sure it uses the certificate.

You should allow up to one business day for us to finish this, although it usually doesn’t take that long.

Should I just use the “Really Simple SSL” plugin instead of doing this?

We don’t recommend that. Those kinds of plugins are unnecessary if the site is set up properly for SSL. They can cause unusual problems, and they often show options that make it look like you need to take care of technical details that we’ve already handled for you, such as obtaining an SSL certificate.

Even more confusingly, if you accidentally choose the “Really Simple SSL” option to obtain an SSL certificate, you’ll later start getting email messages from “Let's Encrypt Expiry Bot <expiry@letsencrypt.org>” saying that your SSL certificate needs renewing (which it doesn’t).

It’s simpler and more reliable to have us make sure that your site works properly for SSL without using a plugin, and we’re glad to do that.
