How do I enter a new email password on my iPhone or iPad?
When you change the password for your email account in our “My Account” control panel, you need to re-enter it in two places in the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad.
Be sure to enter the new password in two places.
A common pitfall is mistakenly entering the new password only in the “Incoming Mail Server” section. Be sure to enter it in both sections described below, otherwise your outgoing mail won’t work.1. Go to the settings screen.
From the iPhone or iPad main screen, tap:
- Settings
- Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts (for iOS 18 or later)
or Mail > Accounts (for iOS 14-17); Passwords & Accounts (for iOS 12-13); Accounts & Passwords (for iOS 11); Mail (for iOS 10); Mail, Contacts, Calendars (for iOS 9 and previous versions) - (your email address)
Then tap Account Settings:
2. Update the “Incoming Mail Server” password.
Locate the password field in the section titled “Incoming Mail Server”. Erase the current value in the password field, then carefully type in your new password.
3. Update the “Outgoing Mail Server” password.
Scroll down the page to the “Outgoing Mail Server” section and tap SMTP, then tap the name of the “primary server” (which is most likely marked “mail.tigertech.net”):
In the “Outgoing Mail Server” section, find the password field. Erase its current value, then carefully type in your new password.
Tap Done to save the new password. This will return you to the prior screen; tap Account Settings in the top left-hand corner. This will return you to the “Account” screen; tap Done to save all changes.
After having successfully changed the password in both places, your email should work correctly. Send yourself a simple message to test both the sending and receiving capabilities.
Having trouble saving your changes?
Be sure you've gone back to the “Account Settings” screen and pressed Done in the top right. The changes won’t be saved if you don’t.
