If you use FileZilla, you can make the file modification timestamps of files you upload match the timestamps of the source files on your computer. Just enable the Preserve timestamps of transferred files option of the Transfer menu.

The FTP server software we use supports the MFMT command that FileZilla then uses to preserve the timestamps.
