Follow the instructions below to set up the Windows 8 “Mail” program to send and receive email for a mailbox that you’ve created.

1. Start Mail

Start the Windows 8 Mail program by clicking the “Mail” tile on the Start screen:

2. Choose the “Settings” charm

View the charms by pressing Windows key + C or moving the mouse to the top-right corner of the screen, then click Settings:

3. Click “Add an account”

If you are running Windows 8.1 and the “Settings” panel appears, click Accounts.

When the “Accounts” panel appears, click Add an account:

4. Add an “Other Account”

When the “Add an account” panel appears, click Other Account:

5. Enter your email address and password

If you are first asked “What kind of account is this”, choose IMAP and click Connect.

Enter your full email address and password:

Then click Connect.

5. Enter additional mail settings

A new screen will ask for additional details.

Everything should already be correctly filled in except the “Username”, “Incoming (IMAP) email server” and “Outgoing (SMTP) email server”. For these, type:

Username:your email address
Incoming (IMAP) email server:mail.tigertech.net
Outgoing (SMTP) email server:mail.tigertech.net

The screen should look like this:

Then click Connect again.

You’re finished!

Mail should successfully connect to your mailbox.

Note that Windows 8 Mail only supports the IMAP protocol, not POP.
