How do I transfer a domain name that was registered with Register.com?

To transfer a Register.com domain name and/or Web hosting account to Tiger Technologies, just sign up for the account on our home page. You'll also want to check a few simple things at Register.com to make sure the transfer goes smoothly:

If you have problems with any of these steps, you can contact Register.com directly at (888) 734-4783 within the US and Canada. Outside the U.S. and Canada, call +1 (902) 749-5310.

Make sure the domain name is unlocked

Domain names that are "locked" with Register.com can't be transferred. To unlock a Register.com domain name:

  1. Go to www.register.com.
  2. Login to your account using your existing Register.com username and password.
  3. Locate your domain name in the list and click on it.
  4. Look at the "ENABLE/DISABLE DOMAIN LOCK" section of the page. If the domain name is locked, the page will display "Domain lock is currently: Enabled". If so, click Disable Domain Lock; it may look like this:

  5. Click the Continue button to confirm the change.
  6. The next page confirms that the domain name lock has been removed.

It may take up to 24 hours for Register.com to notify the central domain registry that the domain name has been unlocked. During this time, you can still place the transfer order on our website: if our pages tell you that the domain name appears to be locked, just choose the option saying that you have already unlocked the domain name. We'll start the transfer as soon as the central registry knows it's been unlocked.

Make sure your email address is correct

We'll need to send a transfer approval notice to the "administrative contact" email address that Register.com has on file for your domain name. Use Register.com's control panel to make sure the email address is correct:

  1. Login to the Register.com control panel and view your domain names (see the "unlocking" instructions above for details).
  2. Locate your domain name in the list and click on it.
  3. Click View Registrant, Administrative Contact and Technical Contact. (You must make the changes through this link; it will not work if you click "Contact Information" on the left-hand side of the page.)
  4. Make sure the Administrative Contact email address is correct. If necessary, edit the contact address.

Be careful to verify the Administrative Contact email address (not the Registrant contact). The transfer approval message will only be sent to the administrative contact address.

Know your transfer authorization code

After you sign up with us, we'll send an email message to the "administrative contact" asking him or her to enter the domain name's "transfer authorization code" on our Web pages. Use Register.com's control panel to obtain the "transfer authorization code":

  1. Login to the Register.com control panel and view your domain names (see the "unlocking" instructions above for details).
  2. Locate your domain name in the list and click on it.
  3. Locate the "ADVANCED TECHNICAL SETTINGS" section and click on Obtain Auth Info Code. It may look like this:

Follow any instructions which appear; you may need to continue through several more pages.
  4. It may take 4–5 days before they send you the authorization code.
