Why do I see a "412 Precondition Failed" error?

If you see the error message “412 Precondition Failed” on a certain page of your website, this usually means that the page request matched a server security rule. The rules are designed to protect sites against malicious activity (“hacking”).

Some of the rules are part of mod_security, a system we use to block many malicious requests. Rules can also be added by software you install on your own website if you’re the site owner (the WordPress Bad Behavior plugin is the most common example).

If you see an incorrect 412 error message on a website hosted by Tiger Technologies, and it’s not caused by software you’ve installed on the site, please contact us immediately. Mention the exact page you were trying to load, and the exact time — that way we can find the incident in our logs and see exactly what happened.
