What makes our service so reliable? First of all, our servers are housed in a secure data center in Silicon Valley. The data center provides extremely reliable network, power and cooling services. For example, the combination of industrial UPS battery backup and emergency generators with guaranteed refueling contracts means we can withstand indefinite power outages. Redundant N+2 air conditioning units keep our servers cool, and the seismically reinforced modern building provides strong earthquake protection.
All our hosting servers have full 1 Gbps Ethernet connections to upstream providers with at least 10 Gbps optical fiber connections to the MAE-WEST and Equinix interchange points in Silicon Valley, NYIIX in New York, AADS in Chicago, Equinix Ashburn in Virginia, and PAIX in Palo Alto, CA.
Unlike many hosting companies, we own our own servers, so we can fix any problems without waiting for others. For example, we can quickly move disks to a "hot standby" server if necessary.
We use only name-brand SuperMicro servers with these specifications:
- Fast, dual quad-core Xeon L5410 processors with 8 CPUs.
- 16 GB of RAM to ensure the servers never need to "swap" memory.
- ECC RAM to protect against memory errors.
- Three-disk local RAID 1 arrays, giving us superior disk read performance and protecting against data loss (in addition to daily onsite and offsite backups).
- An Intel solid state drive as part of the MySQL RAID array for vastly increased database read performance.
- Redundant power supplies.
