How reliable is your service?

We’ve provided greater than 99.9% uptime in each of the last 22 years, even including scheduled maintenance. Guaranteed uptime is part of our money back guarantee.

What makes our service so reliable? We’ve summarized some key points below:

Physical plant

First of all, our servers are housed in a secure data center in Fremont, California (“Silicon Valley”) that provides extremely reliable network, power and cooling services. The combination of industrial UPS battery backup, A/B redundant power feeds, and emergency generators with guaranteed refueling contracts means we can withstand indefinite power outages. Redundant N+2 air conditioning units keep our servers cool. The seismically reinforced modern single-story building provides strong earthquake protection and is not in a flood zone.

Fast network

All our hosting servers have 10 Gbps Ethernet connections to multiple independent upstream providers, each with connections to multiple exchanges, including the CoreSite SV1 and Equinix SV2 interchange points in Silicon Valley, NYIIX in New York, AADS in Chicago, Equinix Ashburn in Virginia, and PAIX in Palo Alto, CA.

You can expect under 2ms ping times to sites like Google:

This high speed and low latency means your visitors can connect quickly to your sites, too.

Our own fast servers

Unlike many hosting companies, we own our own servers, so we can fix any problems without waiting for others. For example, we can quickly move disks to a "hot standby" server if necessary.

We use name-brand SuperMicro servers with these specifications for new accounts:

  • Fast Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors with 64 threaded cores.
  • 128 GB of RAM to ensure the servers never need to “swap” memory.
  • ECC RAM to protect against memory errors.
  • Three-disk local RAID 1 solid state drive (SSD) arrays, giving the servers superior disk performance and protecting against data loss (in addition to daily onsite and offsite backups).
  • Two power supplies connected to redundant power feeds from independent UPS batteries, PDU/circuit breakers and generators.

Our guarantee

We’re so sure our service is reliable that we guarantee complete satisfaction: If your website and email service are not available at least 99.9% of the time in any given month, or if you're dissatisfied in any other way, just let us know why you're not satisfied and we'll promptly give you a full credit for the problem, with no quibbling.

Finally, you can count on us to be here to serve you in the future. Our company is debt-free, we've been in business since 1991, and we’ve been on the Internet since 1994. (In fact, we were running websites before google.com, yahoo.com, and amazon.com existed!)
